Guide

A palette library that stays in your browser

Every tool in Swatchboard has a bookmark action, and each saved palette lands in this library with its colors, type, tags and creation date. Storage is your browser's own localStorage — no account, no server, no sync — which means the library is instant, private and available offline, and disappears only if you clear your site data.

Organize the collection with search, favorites, tags and collections: filter by any tag, sort by name or date, and search by palette name, tag or hex value. Duplicate a palette before experimenting on it, rename it to match the project it belongs to, and open any saved palette straight back into the tool that created it.

Backing up and sharing your palettes

Because the library lives in localStorage, treat export as your backup habit: one click downloads the entire collection as a JSON file that re-imports cleanly on another machine or after a browser reset. Invalid entries are skipped rather than breaking the import, so partially edited files remain safe to try.

For sharing a single palette with someone else, use the share button inside the tool that produced it — share links encode the actual colors in the URL, so the recipient sees the palette without needing your library. The saved library itself stays private to your browser by design.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my saved palettes stored?
In your browser's localStorage under the swatchboard key, on your device only. Nothing is sent to a server, and the library works offline. Clearing site data for swatchboard.xyz will remove it, so export a backup if you care about the collection.
How do I back up or move my palettes?
Use Export to download every palette as a JSON file, then Import on the other machine to restore them. The same file round-trips losslessly, including tags, favorites and collections.
Can I share my saved palettes with a teammate?
Share individual palettes with the share link in the tool that created them — the colors travel in the URL. For whole collections, send the exported JSON file; your teammate can import it into their own local library.
